GROWN-UPS GUIDE
Safety You Can See
More than 23 years of making individual sterilization a fundamental part of our care.

When you choose a studio for your child’s ear piercing, you deserve more than a clean-looking room and a promise that everything is safe. You deserve to understand how the equipment is prepared, how sterilization is monitored, and how your child’s piercing setup reaches the room.
At Tribal Expression, individual, in-house sterilization has been a core part of our practice for more than 23 years. We prepare and sterilize the instruments, new single-use needles, and new jewellery required for each client’s procedure using our STATIM cassette sterilization systems.
This is not an occasional extra or a special service reserved for children. It is how we have built our approach to professional piercing.
Prepared for your child. Sterilized for their procedure. Protected through to the point of use.
Our Approach at a Glance
More Than 23 Years
Individual sterilization has been a fundamental part of our studio practice for more than 23 years.
Prepared for Each Client
The instruments, new single-use needles, and new jewellery are prepared and sterilized for the individual procedure.
Direct Cassette Transfer
The prepared setup travels from the sterilizer to the piercing room in its cassette, without intermediate storage.
Additional Biological Monitoring
Our sterilizers undergo spore testing more frequently than the minimum required for our studio.
Individually Prepared. Individually Sterilized. Every Client.
Your child’s piercing is their own experience, and the preparation behind it should reflect that.

At Tribal Expression, we do not prepare a stockpile of sterilized procedure instruments to store and select from later. Instead, we assemble the equipment needed for each client and sterilize that setup specifically for their procedure.
That preparation includes the cleaned instruments required for the piercing, new single-use piercing needles, and the client’s new jewellery.
The distinction matters: a reusable instrument is not a reused needle. Reusable instruments go through cleaning and sterilization before another client’s procedure. Piercing needles are used once and then discarded safely. Your child’s jewellery is new.
For parents, the message is straightforward: your child receives a freshly prepared, individually sterilized setup—not an explanation that stops at “we have an autoclave.”
Three Important Differences
Needles
New, sterile, and single-use. Used needles are never returned to use.
Reusable Instruments
Cleaned and sterilized before use for another client.
Jewellery
New jewellery, prepared and sterilized for the piercing procedure.
Why We Use STATIM Cassette Sterilization

STATIM systems are steam autoclaves with removable sterilization chambers called cassettes. Their design supports efficient sterilization of suitable instruments using the appropriate cycle for the load.
For a busy piercing studio, that capability matters. It makes preparing equipment close to the time it will be used practical throughout the day.
At Tribal Expression, we use that capability to support an individual-client approach rather than treating sterilization as something separate from the appointment.
The benefit is not rushing your child’s visit. It is having a sterilization system that supports careful, client-specific preparation without relying on stored procedure setups.
The machine is an important part of that system, but it is not the whole system. Proper preparation, loading, cycle selection, monitoring, and handling remain essential.
Efficiency supports our preparation. It does not set the pace for your child.
From the Sterilizer to the Piercing Room
One of the most important features of our process is what happens after sterilization.
The equipment is processed inside its STATIM cassette. After the cycle has successfully completed, the required checks have been made, and the contents are ready for safe handling and use, the piercer takes the closed cassette directly to the piercing room.
The cassette is opened at the point of use, and its sterile contents are handled carefully for your child’s procedure.
That means we are not taking freshly sterilized instruments out, moving them into storage, selecting them again later, and adding unnecessary handling between sterilization and use.
Reducing unnecessary handling and avoiding intermediate storage are deliberate parts of our cross-contamination controls. They do not replace careful technique; they support it.
Prepare
The equipment and new jewellery needed for the individual client are assembled for sterilization.
Sterilize
The prepared setup is processed in the STATIM system using the appropriate cycle.
Transfer
After completion and the required checks, the closed cassette is taken directly to the piercing room.
Use
The cassette is opened at the point of use, and the prepared contents are handled carefully for that client’s procedure.
Individual preparation → sterilization → protected transfer → use for that client.
Sterilization Is Monitored—Not Assumed

Owning a sterilizer is not enough. We have a responsibility to monitor its performance and maintain the equipment we depend on.
At Tribal Expression, each sterilizer used to prepare procedure equipment undergoes biological spore testing on a schedule more frequent than the minimum required for our studio.
We consider that additional monitoring part of our obligation to our clients—not simply something to do when an inspection is approaching.
What Is Biological Spore Testing?
A biological indicator contains highly resistant bacterial spores. The test challenges the sterilization process and checks whether those spores survive.
It assesses the process’s ability to kill resistant microorganisms, rather than relying only on the appearance of the instruments or a machine’s display.
In everyday language: we test the sterilization process, rather than simply assuming that equipment is working because it switches on and completes a cycle.
More Than One Kind of Check
Biological testing is one part of our monitoring. Our process also includes cycle documentation and chemical integrators.
These checks provide different information. Using them together gives us more than one way to monitor the process.
Cycle Documentation
Records information about the sterilizer cycle and its operating conditions.
Chemical Integrators
Respond to sterilization conditions within the load. They are a different type of check from biological spore testing.
Biological Spore Testing
Challenges the process with highly resistant spores to assess its ability to kill them.
Periodic spore testing does not replace checking individual cycles, and a chemical indicator changing colour is not, by itself, proof that every item is sterile.
Our expectation is straightforward: equipment must be functioning properly, and the required checks must support releasing the contents for use.
Your child’s safety is not something we leave to assumptions.
More Than 23 Years of Leadership in Individual Sterilization
Individual cassette sterilization is not a new addition to Tribal Expression.
We adopted this approach more than 23 years ago and made it a fundamental part of how our studio operates. That represents a long-standing investment in equipment, staff knowledge, preparation, testing, and consistency.
For us, leadership in professional piercing is demonstrated through what happens every day: how instruments are prepared, how equipment is monitored, how unnecessary handling is avoided, and how openly those practices are explained.
Our experience also includes working with public-health authorities on sterilization and cleanliness practices in a professional piercing setting. We take that responsibility seriously, alongside our responsibility to every client who places their trust in us.
Meeting requirements matters. Building a studio culture that takes those responsibilities seriously, every day, matters just as much.
A Sterilization Room You Can Actually See
At Tribal Expression, an important part of our safety process is visible from the waiting room.
Our viewing window allows families to look into the sterilization room and see the preparation happening behind their appointment. You can ask about the equipment, the cassettes, and the steps involved.
For children, it can turn an unfamiliar part of the visit into something interesting: a chance to discover how the equipment is prepared and why careful preparation matters.
For parents, it provides something more useful than a general reassurance. It gives you an opportunity to understand our process.
You do not need to know the technical terminology. Ask us what something does, why we use it, or how it fits into your child’s appointment.
We welcome those questions.
New Needles. New Jewellery. No Piercing Guns.
We perform piercings with new, sterile, single-use piercing needles—not piercing guns.
A used needle is discarded safely. It is never cleaned and returned to use.
Your child’s new jewellery is also part of the preparation for their procedure. We do not treat jewellery as an afterthought or simply choose it for how it looks in a display.
Our approach considers the material, finish, design, and fit alongside the appearance your child loves. Our own in-house jewellery manufacturing also gives us direct involvement in the craftsmanship of the pieces we produce.
The jewellery, the equipment, and the preparation all belong in the same safety conversation.
Care Extends Beyond the Sterilizer
A freshly sterilized setup is essential, but our responsibility does not end when the cassette leaves the machine.
Hand hygiene, appropriate glove use, cleaned and disinfected work surfaces, and careful handling are part of the appointment too. Our team must protect the prepared equipment while moving between tasks and setting up for the piercing.
The sterilization process and the piercing-room process need to work together. Equipment preparation cannot compensate for careless handling afterwards.
That is why we describe safety as a complete way of working—not a single piece of equipment or one reassuring phrase.
Your Child’s Comfort and Voice Matter, Too
A carefully prepared piercing should also be a considerate experience.
Your child deserves an explanation they can understand, time to ask questions, and the opportunity to tell us how they feel. They can ask for a pause or decide they are not ready to continue.
You are welcome to ask questions alongside them. We want you to understand what is happening without feeling that you must supervise the technical details yourself.
Our goal is to bring professional preparation and a child-centred experience together: a team that takes the equipment seriously and listens to the child in the chair.

Questions Parents Often Ask
Our Responsibility. Your Peace of Mind.
You should not have to become a sterilization expert to choose a piercing studio for your child.
It is our responsibility to prepare the equipment properly, monitor the systems we use, maintain careful working practices, and explain our process honestly.
For more than 23 years, individual sterilization has been part of how Tribal Expression puts that responsibility into practice.
Come and see the studio. Look through the sterilization-room window. Ask us about the cassettes, the testing, or the preparation for your child’s appointment.
Safety should be more than something you are told about. It should be something you can understand—and see reflected in the way your child is cared for.
