Healing and Aftercare
The short answer
Ear lobes typically heal in about six to eight weeks with a simple routine: clean twice a day as shown, hands off, and leave the first studs in until your piercer confirms healing is complete.
The complete healing guide for first earrings: the daily routine, what to avoid, school and sports, and how you know it's finished.
Key takeaways
- Ear lobes typically heal in about six to eight weeks — everyone’s pace differs slightly.
- The routine is small: clean twice daily as shown, otherwise hands off.
- The first studs stay in until your piercer confirms healing — no early changes.
- Protect healing lobes during sports, helmets, swim and haircare.
- Worried about what you see? Read the concerns guide — or call us. We would rather look at nothing.
The first night
Expect some tenderness and maybe a little warmth — like a small scuff. Sleep on the other side if you can, and leave the studs alone. Nothing needs to happen on night one except pride.
The daily routine
- Morning and evening: clean as we show you at the appointment — gentle solution, clean hands, no twisting, no turning.
- Everything in between: hands off. Fingers are the main source of irritation and infection in healing piercings.
- Hair and hats: keep hair products away from the lobes, and be careful pulling hats, helmets and headphones on and off.
What to avoid while healing
- Touching, twisting or sleeping directly on fresh piercings.
- Removing or changing the first studs — even once, even briefly.
- Swimming without covering the lobes, and letting shampoo sit on them.
School and sports
Healing rarely interrupts a school term. Studs sit close to the lobe so most activities are fine; helmets, swim caps and headphones just need a little care for a few weeks. If your child’s school has a jewellery policy, a word with the office about recently pierced ears usually finds an easy arrangement.
How you know it’s finished
No soreness, no redness, no flaking — and it stays that way for a week or two. We confirm healing in person before any jewellery change: come back and let us take the first look, then the fun of second earrings begins.
Tribal policy
We teach the routine at the appointment and send it home in writing · come back any time for a free look at how healing is going · first jewellery changes happen only after healing is confirmed.
We show you the routine and watch you do it once before you leave — then book with confidence.
