Sterilization pouches are designed to communicate. Each carries an indicator mark that changes colour only after genuine sterilizer conditions were reached — it is a per-item record of the cycle. The seal keeps the inside isolated from the world; an unopened, undamaged pouch preserves sterility for a long time after the cycle. Many pouches also carry labels for dates and load tracking, which connect the item to the studio’s records.

The three things worth watching for

• The pouch is opened in front of you, at the appointment — not pre-opened on a tray
• The indicator has changed — ask if you are unsure which mark to look at
• The seal is intact before opening — no tears, no dampness, no re-taped edges

Asking "will you open everything in front of us?" is a completely normal question, and a good studio answers it gladly.
