Colour is included in the fun

Choosing the jewellery should be one of the best parts of the experience. Available titanium pieces can be anodized into a variety of available colours — pink, blue, purple, gold and other options — letting your child personalize their earrings without moving into a much more expensive jewellery category. Ask about today’s colour options. A classic titanium bead can be pink. A white sparkling gemstone can be paired with blue titanium. A titanium heart or star can become a completely different look by changing the titanium colour. We want kids to be able to choose something that feels like their jewellery.

What to bring

Identification is extremely important for children’s piercing appointments. We don’t want a family to arrive with an excited child only to discover that the appointment cannot proceed because the required identification or guardianship documentation was left at home.

• Government-issued photo identification for the parent or legally authorized guardian attending the appointment.
• Identification for the child receiving the piercing is required at the appointment. Bring identification for the child — for example a birth certificate or passport.
• When required to establish legal authority to consent, please bring applicable documentation — for example guardianship, custody or adoption documentation — showing that the adult attending the appointment has authority to consent for the child.

Parent and child last names

Whenever possible, the last name of the child and the parent or guardian providing consent should match on the identification presented. We understand that families come in many different forms and that parents and children do not always share the same last name.

When the parent or guardian and the child have different last names, please bring appropriate documentation showing the adult attending has legal authority to consent. If you are unsure whether your identification or paperwork will work, contact Tribal Expression before the appointment — we would much rather answer the question ahead of time than disappoint an excited child.

Matching last names make verification straightforward. Different last names mean appropriate documentation may be required to establish legal authority — either way, the answer is never a surprise at the counter.

Parent or guardian consent

A parent or legal guardian must be present for the entire appointment. Where parental or guardian consent is required under Tribal Expression’s age policies, the appropriate parent or legally authorized guardian must be present and provide the required identification and documentation.

But at Tribal Expression, there are two people whose consent matters: the parent or guardian — and the child. Parental permission gives us the authorization to perform the piercing. It does not mean we ignore how the child feels. Your child may ask questions, take their time, understand what will happen, request another moment, say they are not ready, or change their mind.

The child’s willingness matters. We do not force children through an elective piercing, and no child is ever held down for a piercing. Our goal is to create a positive experience your child can remember proudly. If today isn’t the day, that’s okay. We’ll still be here when they’re ready.

Changing your mind is always okay

A child can be excited about their piercing for weeks and suddenly become nervous when appointment day arrives. That’s normal. Our team can explain the process, answer questions, help children understand what to expect, and give them time to become comfortable.

But encouragement and pressure are not the same thing. We would rather postpone an ear piercing than turn an exciting childhood milestone into an experience your child remembers for the wrong reasons. Being brave does not mean being forced. Sometimes saying “not today” is the right decision.

Ages we pierce

Different piercings require different levels of maturity, anatomy, and aftercare responsibility. Ear-lobe piercing and cartilage piercing should not simply be treated as the same procedure with different placement. Tribal Expression maintains specific age requirements for different piercings — ear lobes are pierced from age eight, and cartilage piercings wait until later. Gemstone — starting at $102 per ear, the complete price. It includes the professional ear piercing with a 3 mm 5A-grade cubic zirconia gemstone set in implant-grade titanium, a titanium backing, available anodized titanium colours, locally produced Calgary jewellery and our lifetime jewellery warranty. Titanium Shapes — $109 per ear, the complete price.
