What to look for

Openness. Clean surfaces in view, tools unwrapped in front of you, and staff who answer “how do you sterilize?” happily and specifically.
Sterile, single-use equipment. Anything that touches the ear should be single-use and opened in front of you; anything reused should be autoclaved.
Gloves and a dedicated station. Gloves go on fresh, and the piercing happens on a cleaned surface — not a counter shared with retail.
A child-shaped experience. Calm booking slots, a space children feel comfortable in, and staff who talk to your child, not just to you.

Red flags

Piercing guns for children — they cannot be fully sterilized between uses and work by force, not precision.
Vagueness about sterilization, or defensiveness about questions.
Rushing: no time to answer questions, or pressure to “just do it today.”
No documentation of consent, or a guardian being asked to wait outside.

What happens if my child wants to stop partway?
What aftercare support is included afterwards?
