What If We Miss a Piercing Cleaning?

The short answer

Do not panic, and do not aggressively double-clean to make up for it. Resume the normal routine at the next scheduled cleaning. Consistency matters because dried healing material can accumulate and become rough around the jewellery — but one missed cleaning does not mean the piercing is ruined.

One missed cleaning is not a crisis: resume the routine, do not double-clean.

For parents

Life happens — a late night, a busy morning, a forgotten swab. One missed cleaning is not a failure, and it does not mean the piercing is ruined.

What to do

  • Resume the normal routine at the next scheduled cleaning.
  • Clean gently as usual — do not scrub harder to make up for it.
  • Let any accumulated crusties soften first rather than picking.

What not to do

  • Do not double-clean aggressively to compensate.
  • Do not add extra products on top of the routine.

Why it matters

The goal is consistency, not punishment for missing a cleaning. A steady twice-daily pattern removes dried healing material before it builds up; an occasional gap followed by a return to the pattern keeps that goal intact.

When we want to see you

If several cleanings have been missed and the area looks irritated, or material has built up that will not soften away, book a consultation and we will help you reset.
