Can My Child Shower After Getting Their Ears Pierced?
The short answer
Yes. Normal showering, hair washing and face washing can continue. Perform the normal piercing cleaning after the shower so shampoo, conditioner, face wash, soap and other products are not left sitting around the healing piercing.
Showers continue as normal — just clean the piercing afterward so no products linger.
For parents
A new piercing does not pause everyday life. Your child can shower normally the same evening as the piercing — the key is sequencing.
What to do
- Shower, wash hair and wash face as usual.
- Afterward, perform the normal twice-daily cleaning so any shampoo, conditioner, soap or face wash is rinsed away from the piercing rather than left sitting around it.
- If the shower falls between the two scheduled cleanings, the post-shower cleaning simply becomes that scheduled cleaning.
What not to do
- Do not aim a hard, direct water stream at the fresh piercing for long periods.
- Do not add extra cleanings because of a normal shower — fold it into the routine.
